12 May (Fri)
The talk will shed light on French choreographer Christian Rizzo’s biographic journey – from his beginnings in the fashion scene and visual arts to his encounters with the world of dance. It is a question of how he has arrived at where he is today, and all the little stories interwoven into the every fabric of his practice – and life. Fiction and abstraction, singularity and community: for Christian Rizzo, it all comes back to the choreographic language and the architecture of movement, the underlying foundation of the intricate choreographic exchanges he pursues.
Speakers:
Christian Rizzo, International Choreographer
Moderator:
Prof. Anna CY Chan, Dean of the School of Dance, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts
About Christian Rizzo
Christian Rizzo made his artistic debut in Toulouse, where he formed a rock group and launched a fashion brand before undertaking training in the fine arts at Villa Arson in Nice. He effected an unexpected career transition in the 1990s, performing several contemporary choreographies throughout Europe, occasionally designing the soundtracks or costumes for these productions as well.As a choreographer, visual artist, or curator, Christian Rizzo tirelessly strives to represent the elasticity and tension between space and human bodies. In 1996, he founded the association fragile, a platform to create performances, installations, solo and group dances, alongside other projects commissioned by opera, fashion and fine arts institutions. Some 40 of his productions have since taken shape, in addition to his educational activities. In 2015, he took the helm of the Montpellier-Occitanie National Choreographic Center.
