Public Talk - Rethinking Digital Poetry

“New technologies have accelerated our daily lives and decreased our attention span.”  Christian Mio Loclair will discuss how he used new media technologies, generated systems and machine learning to maintain our attention and to find poetry and meaningful artistic insight.  He will also reveal his investigation in transferring the sensual experience of dance through media technologies.

About Christian Mio Loclair
Christian Mio Loclair, creative director at Waltz Binaire, is a new media designer, code artist and choreographer from Berlin, Germany. He explores the harmonic friction of nature colliding with digital aesthetics and data. Using cutting edge technology in interactive installations, audio-visual experiences, visual narratives and dance performances, he continuously illuminates the beauty and drama of human identity. He is publishing his work on mobile applications, digital projections and theatre stages around the world for commercial and independent projects.

About Raphael Hillebrand
The choreographer Raphael Hillebrand was born in Hong Kong, he grew up in Berlin and was educated through hip-hop. He uses his polycultural back-ground to realise his own visions.  He began his career as a dancer, initially participating in numerous B-Boy battles and winning the national Battle of the Year 2006 and the 2vs2 at the IBE in Rotterdam. At the same time, he worked in stage productions, first as a performer, then increasingly in collective creations and today as a choreographer and dancer. As a former member of 5-Amox and B-Town Allstars he won several championships such as the national Battle of the Year 2006 and the 2vs2 at the IBE in Rotterdam. Niels ‘Storm’ Robitzky introduced him to the world of theatre. With the video performance “Together Alone” he toured worldwide. As a member of the legendary Battle Squad and Animatronik he still is a passionate member of the Hip-Hop community of today. Raphael belongs to the Goethe Institute’s most important choreographic representatives. Working on an international level, Raphael has been realizing different creations with dancers from other continents, and has been leading cultural co-operation programs. At the Freiburg Theatre in Germany, he directed the choreographic part of an ur-ban adaptation of Richard Wagner’s ‘Ring’, “Der Rap des Nibelungen”, then conceived and directed volXtanz, a work merging HipHop and folk dances. His works have been presented in important venues such as ‘Breakin Con-vention’ at Sadler’s Wells and on tour in the UK, Théâtre national de Chaillot, CND Pantin, HAU Berlin, Théâtre de l’Archipel Perpignan and more. 2014 he completed his Master of Choreography at the Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin (HZT).
