Biography
Mimi Auson joined the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) as part time Accompanist in 1985. She became full time Contemporary Dance Accompanist in 1989 and took up the role to coordinate part time dance accompanist in 2000.
Mimi was under the tutelage of French trained virtuoso pianist Prof. Michael Leong. She has been piano accompanist for three major dance companies in Hong Kong, including, Hong Kong Ballet Company, Hong Kong Dance Company and City Contemporary Dance Company. She was handpicked by Garry Trinder, Artistic Director of Hong Kong Ballet at the time, to perform with the company in Shanghai.
Her role as accompanist at the HKAPA has extended her dance vocabularies with a variety of dance techniques, such as Martha Graham, Cunningham and Limón Technique. She has collaborated with prestigious dance companies and artists around the world including Paul Taylor Dance Company, Cloud Gate Dance Company, Cullberg Ballet, Quebec Ballet, Singapore Dance Theatre, Argentina Tango, Purchase College, State University of New York Conservatory of Dance and Guangdong Dance School; Jaime Redfern, Raewyn Hill and Richard Causer from Australia, Dr. Emma Reading from Britain and the late Dr. Tom Brown, among others. Furthermore, she has also been working with dance schools from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Philippine and different provinces in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Shenzhen and Guangdong.
