Mr CHAN, Ricky
Head of Theatre Design
Ricky Chan is the Head of Theatre Design of TEA, and he is one of the most prominent set and costume designers in Hong Kong.
Ricky’s designs have been featured in various productions across Asia and Europe, including two performances at the Shakespeare’s Globe in London. Throughout his professional life, he has designed for more than 150 productions of various genres, including opera, Chinese opera, Chinese dance, contemporary dance
, and drama, winning much critical acclaim. His design for the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre’s Dr Faustus won him his third Best Set Design award at the Hong Kong Drama Award in 2011. In recent years, he has worked on many large-scale Cantonese opera productions, such as Shade of Butterfly and Red Pear Blossom.
Ricky holds a BFA with honours in Technical Arts from the HKAPA; an MA in Intercultural Studies from Chinese University of Hong Kong; and an MFA in Theatre and Entertainment Arts with Distinction form HKAPA.
Ricky has worked extensively in the theatre, commercial fields, and interior design. He has also participated in activities promoting theatre arts education and given talks on set and costume design. He was the chairman of Hong Kong Association of Theatre Technicians and Scenographers from 2008 to 2012.
