Lecturer (Complementary Studies)
Jasmine Lai received her first degree in Economics from the University of Hong Kong, master’s in Professional Communication in English with Academic Merit Award from the University of Sydney, and second master’s in Translation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During her masters’ studies, Jasmine was fascinated by English functional grammar and media communication which brought her distinctions in these areas of study. Together with her editorial experience gained from a British financial publisher where she was coached by editors graduated from University of Cambridge and University of Oxford, Jasmine is skilled in editing and writing different genres of texts. While she was working as a part-time lecturer in different tertiary institutions, she served as an appointed writer of HKTDC and Mastercard as well as translator and proof-reader for various language projects, namely Expedia, Google, and different publications. In her capacity as a lecturer over the past ten years, Jasmine has developed a heartfelt love for her teaching profession, in particular interactions with her young, energetic students. Her passion in education has evolved into an aspiration to pursue a doctorate degree in Education. Jasmine recognises the need to help students from underprivileged families with lower educational background owing to wider wealth gap. This has steered her toward her research interests in education equity and student-centered, blended learning (online and conventional pedagogies) to enhance enjoyment and effectiveness in language learning.
