Citation

Dr Peter Viem Kwok is a tireless business magnate, who is well known for his acumen and visionary leadership. Currently Executive Director and the Chairman of CITIC Resources Holdings Limited, as well as director of several subsidiaries of the company, Dr Kwok oversees the strategic planning and development of the group. During more than 40 years in the banking and finance industries, he has held senior positions with various international financial institutions in Hong Kong and Taiwan, earning him a reputation as an insightful and prudent leader whose decision-making and inexhaustible energy have helped the companies prosper. In addition to his regional success, Dr Kwok’s investment foresight in the global market is also impressive. As a wine lover, Dr Kwok is a regional pioneer investing in chateaux in France.

Dr Kwok’s eminence has been shaped by his international educational background. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Commerce from Taiwan University, a Master of Philosophy Degree in Management Studies from The University of Hong Kong, and a Doctoral Degree in Finance from the University of California, Berkeley in the United States.

Business accomplishment alone does not accurately define Dr Kwok. A long-term supporter of the Academy, Dr Kwok is committed to public service and spares no effort in supporting educational and cultural development in Hong Kong. His generous donation to the Academy made possible the 2007 European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) Leadership Symposium, which brought internationally renowned speakers to the Academy to share their insights with arts administrators from 22 countries.

Dr Kwok’s contribution to the Academy is not simply that of a donor. He was a member of the Academy Council from 2007 to 2012, sharing with the Academy his expertise and counsel. The completion of this term of voluntary service in 2012 did not put a stop to Dr Kwok’s commitment to the Academy. On the contrary, that commitment has been equally unwavering, if not more active. Apart from joining the Association of Past and Present Council Members of the Academy and supporting its activities, Dr Kwok’s close ties with the Mainland have also benefitted the Academy, as he has been instrumental in pushing forward the recent Mainland Enrichment Activities Programme, whose aim is to provide students with more exchange opportunities with Mainland institutions.

Dr Kwok’s generosity and philanthropy extend beyond the local community. Not only has Dr Kwok donated to Project Hope in support of the building of primary schools in the Mainland, but he also served as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was Vice Chairman of both the Subcommittee of Human Resources and Environment of the National Committee of the CPPCC and the Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese.
