The Blind is an early creation by the famous Nobel Prize-winning playwright Maurice Maeterlinck. This symbolist work is full of pessimism. The story stages on a deserted island, where a secluded hospice houses a group of blind people. One day, led by an aged priest, they set out for the woods to soak up the sunshine. Suddenly, the priest passes away, leaving the blind folk to believe he has stepped away for a little while. Awaiting his return, they are confronted by flocks of ominous birds, inhospitable winds, and endless dark night…
Translated, adapted, and directed by the Academy’s School of Drama lecturer Alex Cheung, this Cantonese drama emphasises on mood, sound and ambiance, reflecting the emotions of the characters and exploring the state of despair and hope.
