Biography
Ren Dongsheng is the Director of the Department of Stage Design at the Beijing Dance Academy. He is a National First Class Stage Designer, the Executive Vice-chairman of the Lighting Professional Committee of the China Institute of Stage Design, the Vice-director of the Beijing Stage Design Committee; Director of the China Musical Association, Beijing Theatre Association and Beijing Dancers Association; an Editorial Board member of the magazine “Entertainment Technology”; the Founder, member of the Arts Committee and Visual Director of the Daliangshan International Theatre Festival; a Doctoral Supervisor and Expert in teaching and practical guidance at the Central Academy of Drama.
He is also a Visiting Professor and Resident Artist at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, a Visiting Professor at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, and a Distinguished Professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Ren has received numerous national awards such as the "Wenhua Grand Award,” "Five One Project Award," as well as the Russian "Benois de la Danse" for "Best Stage Design Award."
Some of his notable works include the concept performance 2047 APOLOGUE, dance dramas The Railway to Tibet, The Eternal Wave, The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting, Wing Chun, stage plays The Pillow Man, Tide (浪潮), The Awakening Age, musical On the Road, and the epic art performance The Great Journey.
