Cheongsam became popular during the early 1920s in Hong Kong.
The design development of cheongsam reflects the blending of Chinese and Western cultures.
Men's cheongsam symbolises seniority amongst clansmen in the New Territories,
while women's cheongsam (qipao) has gradually found its own unique Hong Kong style
with improvement of sewing technique. Both are socially significant.
The Library will display selected books on Cheongsam, and show you its evolution and development.
Let’s experience the glamour of this intangible cultural heritage.
