Bio
Ian Tang is a Hong Kong-based cross- disciplinary sound artist and composer. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the School of Creative Media at the City University of Hong Kong.
His work spans various media, including contemporary dance, short films, theatre productions and new media performances, as part of his research into interactive, generative sound programming and electro-music composition methods. Tang is currently exploring the interrelationship between computer music, urban soundscape, and sound synthesis as a medium of narration and immersion. He has collaborated with several major art institutions, including Hong Kong Art Festival, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Floating Projects, Theater Space and Van Huynh Company.
His performances and works have been staged both in Hong Kong and internationally, including Human, Common Territory at HKAPA (2024), BirdSong at M+ (2023), UNHEARD Sound and Music Festival at Eaton Hotel (2022), Sonic Anchor at Hong Kong Arts Centre, TechBox at Freespace (2020), as well as overseas occasions, such as BankART KAIKO in Yokohama, Athens Digital Arts Festival, Walthamstow International Film Festival, Rich Mix in London, School of Visual Arts in New York City, Ufa Fabrik in Berlin, Nonsuch Studios in Nottingham and Ormskirk Arts Centre at Edge Hill University.
