The School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts offers a one-year full-time Certificate in Theatre and Entertainment Arts (Fast Track Vocational) programme, structured to provide practical experience in the production disciplines of theatre, entertainment and performing arts. Students will be offered core studies within the disciplines listed below, as well as production practice, industry placement and other supporting studies in the school. A student who has successfully completed the programme should have the ability to enter the entertainment industry at junior level.

Entrance Requirements

  • Applicants should have completed secondary school education.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who can also show a genuine passion, interest and desire to pursue a career in the theatre and the entertainment arts industry, preferably in one of the specialist areas offered.

 Preliminary Selection

  • Selection is based upon a review of school records, HKCEE / HKAL / HKDSE scores, previous experience in creative arts, portfolio review, letters of reference, and a written statement of personal goals.
  • Applicants should submit a supplementary portfolio and document demonstrating creative talents and skills applicable to the selected specialisation. 

Interview

  • Candidates who pass the preliminary selection will be invited to attend one or more interviews or recruitment exercises. Admission will be based primarily on personal interviews, portfolio reviews and/or practical tests.
  • The number of places that can be offered for certain major studies is limited and may vary from year to year; the Academy cannot provide written assessments or enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants.

Portfolio and Document Requirement

Lighting Technology, Sound Technology specialisations applicants should submit the following portfolio or document: 

Samples of artwork, models, technical drawings, paperwork, renderings, photos, sound tapes, or videos of any productions or projects applicants have been involved with.

 

Technical Theatre and Stage Management specialisation applicants should submit the following portfolio or document:

Samples of production files, prompt book, budget, schedule, running lists, samples of artwork, models, technical drawings, paper work, renderings, photos, videos, or other supporting documents for theatre presentations, community projects, performing arts productions or projects applicants have been involved with.

 

Costume Making, Property Making and Scenic Painting specialisations applicants should submit the following portfolio or document:

Sketches, drawings, renderings, paintings, visual diaries, photographs of three-dimensional works such as costumes, props, sculptures, large-scale paintings etc.

Tuition Fee
HK$31,575 (tuition fee for 2024/25 as reference only)
Tuition fees for an academic year are payable in two equal installments before the start of each semester, i.e. before September for Semester One and before February for Semester Two. Any fees paid are not refundable.
