Undergraduate and Post-secondary Programmes

The Academy selects applicants for admission on the basis of the General Admission Requirements (GAR) and Language Admission Requirements specified for respective learning programmes as well as Programme Specific Admission Requirements such as applicants' talents, attainment and relevant training in the chosen disciplines. Applicants may be asked to attend an audition and/or an interview or to submit a portfolio or to sit an entry test, or a combination of these as deemed necessary by the Schools which offer the respective programmes.

 

Undergraduate Programmes (QF Level 5)

1. General Admission Requirements (GAR)

Completion of senior secondary education; with either one of the following qualifications:

 

(a) Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination

      The applicant shall have attained the following:

(i) Level 3 or above in English Language Subject; and
(ii) Level 3 or above in Chinese Language Subject; and
(iii) Level 2 or above in Mathematics Subject; and
(iv) Level 2 or above in Liberal Studies Subject; and
(v) Level 2 or above in at least one other subject (or "Attained" in any one Applied Learning subject)

(b) Diploma in (Discipline) Foundations awarded by The Academy, subject to meeting specified articulation requirements.

(Discipline refers to either Cantonese Opera or Dance or Drama or Music or Theatre and Entertainment Arts)

 

(c) Other Recognised Qualifications

i) Studying for a Bachelor's Degree at a locally recognised post-secondary institution

Satisfactory completion of at least one year of a Bachelor's Degree programme

ii) Studying for an Associate Degree or Higher Diploma at a locally recognised post-secondary institution

iii) Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE)
  • Grade E or above in three A-Level subjects; or
  • Grade E or above in two A-Level subjects and Grade E or above in two AS Level subjects
iv) General Certificate of Education Advanced Level Examination (GCE A-Level)
  • Grade E or above in three A-Level subjects; or
  • Grade E or above in two A-Level subjects and Grade E or above in two AS Level subjects
v) International Advanced Level Examination (IAL)
  • Grade E or above in three A-Level subjects; or
  • Grade E or above in two A-Level subjects and Grade E or above in two AS Level subjects
vi) International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

24 points or above

vii) Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC)
  • BTEC National Extended Diploma at RQF L3 (180 credits) at PPP or above; or
  • BTEC National Diploma at RQF Level 3 (120 credits) at PP or above plus Two BTEC Level 3 Certificates (30 credits) at P or above; or
  • A combination of BTEC Level 3 Diplomas / Certificates making up a total of 180 credits with UCAS tariff point 48 or more

 

(d) Recognised International Qualifications (By Country/Area)

  • The National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 (three approved subjects at Level 3 made up of 14 credits each; plus 10 credits in approved literacy at level 2 or above, consisting of 5 credits in reading and 5 in writing; plus 10 credits in approved numeracy achievement at level 1 or above.)
Philippines
  • Senior High School Certificate/Diploma (Grade 12); or
  • Satisfactory completion of the first two years of a bachelor's degree programme at a recognised university (for applicants who have not completed senior high school Grades 11 and 12)
Singapore
  • Diploma awarded by one of the following institutions: Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, LASALLE College of the Arts; or
  • Senior High School Graduate Certificate and passes in three H2 subjects or passes in two H2 and two H1 subjects in Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-level
Taiwan
  • A satisfactory score in General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT) overall four subjects; or
  • Satisfactory completion of Year 3 (Pre-University) of the Taiwanese 7-year programmes
Thailand Completion of Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate - Mathayom Suksa 6 (Maw 6)
United Kingdom

Senior High School Graduate Certificate; and

  • GCE A-level Examination: Grade E or above in three A-Level subjects; or

  • Grade 3 or above in two subjects in Advanced Placement (AP); or score of 550 or above in two subjects in SAT subject test (excluding Literature in English).

The Academy reserves the right to accept language qualifications in conjunction with in-house proficiency tests.

3. Programme Specific Admission Requirements

Each School specifies its admission requirements which are discipline-specific. Nonetheless, the applicants all fall under a common admission framework as follows:

(i)   All applicants applying to the programmes of respective Schools will be subject to the same admission selection process for determination of the competency level.

(ii)   Admission selection comprises a process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) with verification through audition and/or interview and/or portfolio presentation and/or entry test .

Diploma in Foundations Programmes (QF Level 4)

1. General Admission Requirements (GAR)

Completion of senior secondary education; with either one of the following qualifications

(a) Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination

  Applicants shall have attained the following:

  • Level 2 or above in English Language Subject; and Chinese Language Subject; and
  • Level 2 or above in any other three subjects (one of the subjects can be "Attained" in an Applied Learning subject)

(b) Other Acceptable Qualification

  • Diploma Yi Jin

 

2. Language Admission Requirements

(a) Recognised English Language Qualifications

Advanced Diploma in Cantonese Opera (QF Level 4)

  • Diploma in Cantonese Opera awarded by The Academy, including the attainment of relevant GPA scores; or
  • An equivalent qualification deemed acceptable by The Academy; or
  • One of the following qualifications with  relevant work and professional experience:

     - An Associate Degree or Higher Diploma from a recognised post-secondary or degree awarding institution; or

     - An Zhuanke Diploma from Mainland China post-secondary institution.

Professional Diploma in Dance (QF Level 4) ~ New Programme (subject to the approval of the Academic Board)

Completion of senior secondary education; and

  • Appropriate qualification relevant to the chosen discipline from a recognised professional training institution; or
  • Significant work or performance experience in areas relevant to the chosen discipline, and artistic/performance standard.

Certificate in Theatre and Entertainment Arts (Fast Track Vocational) (QF Level 3)

Applicants should have completed secondary school education and also show a genuine passion, interest and desire to work in theatre, the entertainment arts, preferably in one of the specialist areas offered.  Acceptance is based on an interview and review of portfolio work where applicable.
