About Us

The Department of Performing Arts Research, in collaboration with the Department of General Education, integrates interdisciplinarity and intellectual inquiry into artistic training and creative practice. Both Departments operate under the umbrella of General Education and Research at the Academy.

 

The Department advances scholarly inquiry into creativity and the performing arts.   Its research-driven initiatives encourage students to engage with culture and traditions, pioneer new forms, and shape the future of the performing arts.

 

The Department fulfils its mission through teaching, services and publication by:

 

  • Offering the MA in Performing Arts Studies programme 
  • Developing and offering Performing Arts Research (PAR) courses for undergraduate students
  • Providing core and elective courses for postgraduate programmes (MFA, MMus, MA)
  • Advising and supporting faculty in research design, project implementation, and funding applications
  • Collaborating with Schools to strengthen the Academy’s research capacity, profile, and culture
  • Servicing the Research Committee and the Human Ethics Sub-committee
  • Managing the Academy’s official journal, PA:PER
  • Identifying and cultivating new research opportunities

MAGIC INCLUSIVE PROJECT PILOT AWARD SCHEME

The Magic Inclusive Project Pilot Award Scheme (the “Award”), managed by Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (ADAHK), aims to support undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in developing projects that:

  1. Promote arts for everyone; and/ or

  2. Foster inclusiveness through the arts to build a caring society.

Application for the Award is open to HKAPA students through its Centre for General Education and Research.
