Professional Diploma in Cantonese Opera Launched
The School of Chinese Opera is keen on preserving and developing the Chinese Opera and its heritage. In view of the growing need for talents in Chinese opera performance and music and in Chinese opera related areas, the School has launched a new two-year Professional Diploma in Chinese Opera this September.
Focusing on training for entering the Cantonese opera industry, the programme offers professional and systematic training and practice opportunities thru an integration of discipline-focused major courses and related complementary courses to support holistic development.
If your students have interests in Cantonese opera performance or music; or are seeing professional career opportunities in Cantonese opera performance; or are preparing to become professional Cantonese opera performers or musicians, they can consider applying this new programme.
Major in Choreography
Choreographers of the 21st century are capable of expanding choreography across different art forms, technologies, and collaborations.
The School of Dance started to offer a new major in Choreography in their Bachelor degree programme last year. The major in choreography encompasses a unique approach in a professional environment, with an emphasis on nurturing and expanding choreographic talents to meet the high demands of the region and internationally.
This comprehensive 4-year curriculum is designed with a holistic and coherent concept: "Introduction-Application-Integration-Production". Students choose a specialised dance style in the first two years to equip themselves with technical demands and professional standards before embarking on specialised choreographic-related courses in year three and year four.
New Dean Brings New Opportunities
Mr. Jorge Cacheiro, the new dean of the School of Drama, intends to launch a plan for the upcoming academic year. It includes inviting renowned drama masters from locations such as Los Angeles, New York, and the United Kingdom to come and teach at the School of Drama. The purpose of this initiative is to enrich the academic environment of the school, introducing a more diverse and specialised knowledge base in the field of drama along with rich experiences. Simultaneously, this initiative offers students the opportunity to interact deeply with industry professionals, further enhancing the school's teaching quality and international reputation. It is also expected to attract more students aspiring to pursue careers in drama performance and production, thereby driving continuous development and innovation in this field.
Dean Cacheiro also hopes to assist graduating students expand their employment prospects by exploring opportunities for them to connect with overseas casting directors and agents to better launch their future careers. The hope is not only to provide students with opportunities to step onto the international drama scene but once again to enhance the School of Drama's international recognition and influence by positioning it as a significant hub for international drama education.
