Major in Performance, specialised in Timpani and Orchestral Percussion

 

Valencia Tung is currently studying year 3 at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in Timpani and Orchestral Percussion. During her young age, she was a HKAPA junior student, under Miss Emily Cheng’s guidance. After completing secondary school, Tung was admitted to the Bachelor of Music (Honours) programme of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she studies under the tutelage of the principal timpanist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Mr James Bonzos and Mr Choy Lap-tak. 
 
During her pursuit in music, she has attained the ABRSM Level 4 Diploma in Music Performance(ARSM) Percussion and Trinity College London LTCL Recital Percussion. 
 
Tung has participated in several competitions, Tung won the first prize at Hong Kong Music Talent Award 2022-Pitched Percussion Open Class, second prize winner in Percussion Category at the North International Music Competition 2022. 
 
Tung has received a scholarship from her secondary school, "Munsang College 1965 Alumni Scholarship", which rewards her as an outstanding performer in music. Also, she has received Mr & Mrs. YS Liu Scholarship in 2023. 
 
Currently, she is a member of The Moving Drums and the Hong Kong Pipe Band. 
 
Since 2023, Tung has taken part at the Independent Study Programme organised by HKAPA EDuIT. Through joining various projects and workshops, she has acknowledged the trending technologies, ranging from AI to 3DVista, so as to discover different possibilities for collaborating with performing arts. For the upcoming project, Tung and Bell Law will be cooperating in a project called “Percussion Carousel”, which utilises the technology of 3DVista to introduce the backgrounds, performing gestures and techniques of western and Chinese percussion instruments.

ELIA Leadership Symposium

Participating in the ELIA Leadership Symposium. Valencia is working with another Independent Studies Student Bell Law, to present Chinese and Western percussion performance with the music that was frequently heard during their childhoods in Mid-Autumn Festival. They also generated a video with AI technology based on the music being played.
