The 35th Anniversary Academy Festival Presents: Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute)
“An extraordinary audio-visual journey”
“It is a fascinating piece filled with enchanting tunes, including that of the Queen of the Night “Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen”, which is often used as background music of films and commercials. The performance can take the audience on an extraordinary audio-visual journey.” Prof. Nancy Yuen, Head of Vocal Studies of School of Music
“Music of incredible warmth and humanity”
“Mozart’s magical opera is a journey from darkness to light, illustrated with music of incredible warmth and humanity. Two couples – one noble (Prince Tamino and Pamina), the other low-class (Papageno and Papagena) – undergo trials of their love as they experience doubt, separation and rejection. Spiritual guardians protect and guide them towards their goal as the forces of darkness are eventually driven out by the powers of wisdom and enlightenment. We aimto convey this universal message in a timeless and enchanting way, exploring the difficulties but also the humour of this life which we all undergo in our search for fulfilment.” David Edwards, guest conductor
