Ms Anna Chan Appointed as Dean of the School of Dance of The HKAPA

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (Academy) is very pleased to announce that Ms Chan Chung-ying, Anna (陳頌瑛) has been appointed as Dean of the School of Dance with effect from 3 September 2018.

 

Ms Chan is an experienced arts educator, performer and administrator with extensive local and international experience. She received professional dance training in Australia and the UK and holds Master’s degrees in Dance and Educational Studies from the Universities of Surrey and Sheffield respectively.

 

Ms Chan also has extensive knowledge and understanding of the local dance scene. From 2006 to 2011 she served as Chairperson of the Hong Kong Dance Alliance and Vice-President (East Asia) of the World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific from 2007 to 2017. She is currently Dance Advisor of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. In 2018 Anna received the prestigious Hong Kong Dance Award for Distinguished Achievement in recognition of her significant contribution to dance. Prior to this she was awarded City Contemporary Dance Laureate in 2016. 

 

Ms Chan has recently held the position of Head of Dance (Performing Arts) with the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), where she has taken the lead for shaping the district’s artistic direction and strategies for dance and other creative art forms for Hong Kong and international artists. Before joining the WKCDA, Anna worked at the Academy, first in the School of Dance and later as the inaugural Head of the Performing Arts Education Centre. Under her visionary leadership, the Centre created a number of successful community engagement projects, including smARTS Journey and the Performing Arts Marathon.

 

Professor Adrian Walter, Director of the Academy extends a warm welcome to Ms Chan, and said “I look forward to working with Anna in her new role as Dean of the School of Dance. I believe that her strong local and international dance connections, as well as her significant experience in education and leadership within the performing arts sector, will make a most valuable and positive contribution to the School and the Academy.”
