Citation

The award of Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts is Presented to Professor Lo King-man in recognition of his distinguished stewardship of the Academy and his contribution to the development of the performing arts in Hong Kong and internationally.

Lo King-man served as Director of the Academy from 1993 to 2004 after a distinguished career in academic administration.  His contribution to many Hong Kong public services, policy-making bodies has been remarkable ranging over the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Arts Festival, Arts Centre, the Cultural Centre, the Fringe Festival and the Sinfonietta.

He was also a founding member of the Hong Kong Advisory Council of the Asia Society, New York, and advisor to the Montblanc de la Culture organisation, Hamburg.

Lo King-man studied music and painting from an early age and received professional training at the Teatro Morlacchi of Perugia and the Teatro dellÓpera of Rome.  His contribution to stage productions has been widely celebrated in Hong Kong and internationally.  He has written, directed and designed extensively for stage including over 100 productions of drama, opera and dance and some 50 works staged in Italy Spain, America, Singapore, Thailand, Beijing and Shanghai.

In recognition of his contribution to the performing arts and cultural development, Lo King-man has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, conferred honorary fellowship of the University of Hong Kong and of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, awarded an Italian Cavaliere of the Order of Merit, a French Chevalier of the Order of the Arts and Letters, and the Order of the British Empire.  On 1 July, Professor Lo was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the Government of the HKSAR.

Currently, Professor Lo is Director of Administration of the Canton International Summer Music Academy.
